Heads up — these docs cover Voice Monkey API v3, the current version. If you signed up before the v3 launch, your account is still on API v2 for a limited transition period and the examples below will not work against your account.

Introduction to Voice Monkey

Voice Monkey is an Amazon Alexa skill that enhances Alexa Routines with new capabilities. It gives your home a voice and fills your living space with intelligent ambient sound and video.

  • Play ambient sounds and videos to help you relax, focus and sleep.
  • Add fun and ambience with apps like the Cuckoo Clock.
  • Enhance Alexa Routines with action prompts (Yes/No, named answers) and other flow logic.
  • Trigger Alexa Routines remotely via a simple HTTP API.
  • Make text-to-speech voice announcements via the API.
  • Integrate your Alexa smart home with other systems through IFTTT, Home Assistant, Flic and webhooks.

When you enable the Voice Monkey skill and sign up, you’ll be asked to link your Echo devices to Voice Monkey via Alexa Routines. With those connections in place, Voice Monkey can push the content you want to the devices you choose.

  • Enable the skill — the first step for new users.
  • Devices — what Voice Monkey devices are and how they work.
  • Flows — stack actions to build richer automations.
  • API — trigger routines and announcements programmatically with the v3 API.
  • Devices API — list the Speakers and Routine Triggers on your account.
